EUD Emergency Unlocking Device

A manual locked box that allows authorized users with keys to unlock and open a hoistway landing door from the outside of the hoistway. The box is typically mounted immediately adjacent to the hoistway door at 4-6 feet from the floor. ANSI 17.1 code requires the device to be located at the uppermost and lowermost hoistway doors. The code allows the device to be present at all landing doors if desired.
